The Door In The Wall Presents
ADAPTED SAILING ON CANYON LAKE
Made Possible By The Lake Canyon Yacht Club
Lake Canyon Yacht Club (LCYC) hosted it's fourth and final 2011 outing for guests with special needs on Saturday September 24th.  As always both our guests and volunteers had a wonderful and meaningful day.

Because our Door In The Wall partners had a major event occurring on the same date (Anglers On Wheels II in Port Aransas) for special needs people...attended by 200 guests and their families, our turnout was smaller than normal, but we had eight very enthusiastic guests and used four of our planned six boats to take them sailing.

We began the day at 11:15 am with a short orientation on sailing followed by a great lunch of sandwiches, chips, cookies, and lemonade.  At 12:15 we made our boat assignments and went out for a 2 1/2 hour sail.  The wind was very light, 3-6 mph, but the temperature cooperated to top out in the low 90"s so everyone enjoyed the sail.  I believe all of our guests took turns steering the boats, going from puff to puff, trying to keep the boats moving, and actually covered a good bit of the lake before it was time to return to the club.  Everyone enjoyed the day and is hoping to come back in 2012.

Special thanks to all of our volunteers who made it possible for our club to provide this opportunity.  Many of the following have helped with all four events this year, but we all appreciate other members joining in when they can.  The volunteers were Mary Lindsey, Carolyn Harris, Honey Kirk, and Millie McVey preparing the lunch for us all; Mario Cioppa, his friend Ashley, Bruce Dunn, Henry McGill, Chris Christian, Ray Laubner, Don Muir, Dan Hollingsworth, Jim Ritchie, jDAve Kirk, Bubba Horner, and Dave Sanford provided their boats or sailed as crewbackup skippers.  Thank you so much.
